The Superyacht Design Symposium hosted by Boat International Media concluded Tuesday with presentation by yacht owner Alex Dreyfoos on the topic of “Owner’s Needs for Long-Range Cruising Yachts;” it could have been titled, “This is What it’s All About.”
MLC takes center stage at the Superyacht Design Symposium
Against the backdrop of one of the most spectacular treasures of America’s Golden Age, a packed crowd of yachting insiders spent yesterday immersed in discussions about yachting’s future. Day One of the Superyacht Design Symposium dawned on a clear, autumn day in Palm Beach, Florida, at the iconic Breakers Hotel; a day where strong easterly breezes kicked up equally strong Atlantic surf just steps away from the gilded hall where more than 200 delegates hashed over topics as diverse as ramifications of the impending international Maritime Labor Convention (MLC) and onboard acoustics.
Superyacht Design Symposium starts today
Excitement is in the air in South Florida. Two things made Sunday a real standout in yachting circles: America’s Flagship, 283-foot Cakewalk, completed her maiden voyage from Connecticut to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, arriving ahead of schedule for her debut during the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show; and delegates began arriving in Palm Beach for the 3rd Annual Superyacht Design Symposium. Attendees to this two-day workshop on large yacht design issues and management topics reads like a Who’s Who of the industry’s “A-Team.”

This year’s event takes place on October 25th and 26th at the Breakers Hotel and Resort in Palm Beach, a few miles up the coast from the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, which starts just two days later.

Peers Share their Passions at the Superyacht Design Symposium 2009

A series of absolutely riveting presentations highlighted the concluding day of the Superyacht Design Symposium 2009, presented by Boat International Media. Safety on sailing yachts, anti-piracy measures, helicopter operations and a revolutionary new submersible were the topics discussed by an all-star cast of yacht owners, designers, maritime aviation and yachting industry professionals in the gilded Grand Ballroom of the Plaza Hotel in New York City.
